As we leave the age of innovation in rock music and enter the age of refinement, the first thing we should ask of young bands isn’t, “Haven’t we heard this before?” but, “Why should we take what you do seriously?” Ease of access to sonic inspiration, equipment, technique and even what to say in interviews means that most rock groups exist not on an evenly spread axis of talent but bunched into a tight bell graph bulge of competence where everyone’s been feeding from the same source.
